The Book of Tobit is non-canonical for Orthodox Christians, but canonical for Catholics. This book does not appear in the Jewish Tanakh, it is not in Protestant publications, it was written around 200 BC. The book has been preserved in versions in Greek and Latin, although its original text was written in Semitic; among the Dead Sea Scrolls there were fragments of the book in Hebrew and Aramaic. The Greek text in the Septuagint and the Latin text in the Vulgate have different readings. The content of the book has a religious and moral orientation: it calls for giving alms, burying the dead and leading a moral family life.
